Salary Calculator

Convert an annual salary into hourly, weekly, monthly and estimated take-home pay.

The Salary Calculator converts a gross annual salary into the figures you plan with: hourly rate, weekly pay, monthly gross and — most useful of all — an estimated take-home pay after the big deductions most employees face: US federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare (FICA), and state income tax where it applies.

The estimate follows simplified 2025 US federal rules: it applies the standard deduction for your filing status, then taxes the remainder through the federal marginal brackets, adds FICA payroll taxes on wage income, and applies your optional state rate as a flat percentage. You can switch between single and married-filing-jointly, and adjust state tax to 0 where none exists.

Because every situation differs — pre-tax 401(k) or health insurance contributions, credits, dependents, itemized deductions — the result is an estimate, not a payroll calculation. Use it to sanity-check an offer letter, budget from your net pay, or compare a salary against an hourly job. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Optional — 0 if no state tax.

Frequently asked questions

What deductions are included in the take-home estimate?

Federal income tax (2025 brackets after the standard deduction), Social Security and Medicare (FICA, up to the wage base), and your optional flat state tax rate. Not included: pre-tax retirement or health contributions, other payroll items, tax credits, and local taxes — each of those changes your actual paycheck.

How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the annual salary by (hours per week × paid weeks per year). $75,000 over 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so about $36.06/hour. If you get paid leave, still count those weeks — salaried pay continues through holidays and vacation.

Why is my actual paycheck different from this estimate?

Payroll systems deduct more than taxes: health insurance premiums, 401(k) or pension contributions, HSA/FSA amounts and wage garnishments all reduce net pay, while tax credits increase it. This calculator isolates the main tax items, so compare against a recent pay stub to find the difference.

Is this calculator accurate outside the US?

No — the tax logic follows US federal rules. For other countries, use the tool purely for the gross-to-hourly/weekly/monthly conversions and ignore the US take-home estimate, or pair it with a local payroll calculator.
