The unit mix causes real mistakes: a typical car tire wants about 2.2–2.5 bar, which is 32–36 psi — mix up the systems and you could inflate to ten times the correct pressure. Weather pressure of 1,013 hPa is 29.92 inHg or 1 atm, the standard atmosphere defined exactly as 101,325 Pa.

How do I convert bar to psi?

Multiply bar by 14.5038: 2.5 bar × 14.5038 = 36.26 psi. Tire pressures of about 2.2–2.5 bar therefore correspond to 32–36 psi, and this converter gives the exact figures.

What is standard atmospheric pressure?

1 standard atmosphere is defined as exactly 101,325 Pa — which equals 1.01325 bar, 14.696 psi, 760 mmHg, 29.92 inHg, or 1,013.25 hPa/mbar. Sea-level weather pressure is about 1,013 hPa, falling in storms and rising in high pressure.

Is mmHg the same as torr?

For practical purposes yes: 1 torr was defined as 1/760 of an atmosphere, which differs from 1 mmHg by less than 0.015%. Blood pressure and vacuum measurements are still commonly quoted in mmHg.
